Business
Type: Sales of Discounted and Clearance Electricals
Starting
the Business: Not many people are aware
of the following information – most of
the major electrical stores have clearance auction
websites where they sell ex-display, damaged,
or returned & refurbished electrical goods
that they do not wish to sell on the shop floor.
They do not promote these websites to the general
public for obvious reasons, but those who know
of these website can pick up plasma TVs, hi-fi’s,
kitchen equipment, etc at seriously reduced
prices which can then be sold on for profit
via eBay, gumtree, etc. Simply register with
the websites and you’ll gain access to
all of their current auctions where –
just like eBay – you can bid on the items
you want to buy. All items generally have full
descriptions of whether they are returns, graded,
damaged, etc so you know what you are buying
before jumping in. You do not need to sell many
of these items to make a very healthy supplementary
income which you can scale as you wish –
keeping it as a part-time hobby, or increasing
sales to a full-time business holding lots of
stock.
Where
To Sell: eBay is the best outlet for
reselling your clearance items. Other avenues
for selling your items would be the freeads
papers and also Gumtree.co.uk (which is now
owned by eBay) which lets you list your items
for sale in your local town for free. As everyone
wants bargain electricals these days you can
really advertise them wherever you want and
you should get a good level of interest from
people for the popular items. You should very
easily make between 20-30% profit on each item,
even if you are selling them competitively,
and you therefore do not need to sell too many
products per month to generate a healthy income.
How
Much Can I Make?
As this is a very scalable business, it’s
really up to you how much time and effort you
wish to put into it. You can start off just
buying the odd TV or Hi-Fi and making an extra
£100-£200 per month with virtually
no effort. Alternatively you can start by buying
a few items, reselling them, re-investing the
profit into buying further items and growing
your business organically this way. It may take
several months to reach £1000+ income
per month doing it this way and starting off
slowly, but it is a great way to make additional
money straight away, especially if you are starting
out with very little to spend on anything. You
can also scale the business up and down as you
wish.
