Work
From Home?
Yes. Initially whilst you buy and sell a handful
of items each month it will be very easy to
work this business from home, especially if
the items you are buying are small. Only once
you start to see that your sales of items are
increasing you may start to look at holding
stock at a warehouse or storage unit. Many people
run this type of business part-time to make
extra monthly revenue fairly easily.
Worked Example:
Get a sole trader business account set up with
your local bank for free, take your first bank
statement into your local Makro and ask for
a membership application. They will process
your application and give you a free membership
card. Subscribe to the Makro Mail, which is
sent out fortnightly. Scan through the magazine
picking out the offers that look the most attractive,
then compare them to the prices they typically
fetch on gumtree and eBay. Circle the offers
that appear to give you the most profit and
head to your nearest Makro making sure you arrive
there early – the best offers are gone
by 10am normally. Stock up as much as you wish
with the chosen items and get them listed for
sale via eBay and Gumtree, plus wherever else
you feel they would prove popular with potential
customers. Aim to sell at a price of 30-50%
more than you have paid at Makro wherever permitting
competition-wise. Choose commercially popular
products that are already in demand, and try
to avoid the more niche areas that will not
have as many people searching. It is better
to sell lots of products at a lower profit,
than just a small handful at a slightly higher
profit.
