So
you want to get out on the water?
Things
to consider:
What
type of boating activities do I want to take part in?
Do
I want to enjoy the hard work and total pleasure of
having the wind blow me along or do I just want to step
onboard my boat and turn a key.
I
can only say that having experienced both sailing and
motor boating, the difference is like “Chalk and
Cheese” If and when you are able and decide to
take the “Sailing Option” and it bites you
, it is highly unlikely that you will want to ever step
onboard a motor boat let alone be in the company of
the “Motor Boat “ brigade.
Most
sailing guys are generally quite fit, active, outgoing
and are not easily frightened when encountering tricky
situations with big waves and lots of water splashing
all over the decks.
Guys
who drive motor boats (not counting fishing boats )
still often possess the same qualities but tend to live
in a different world with many of the boats basically
being termed as “Floating Gin Palaces” and
believe me many are.
Lots
of sailors tend to move over to motor boats when they
retire and many regret it.
So
these are the first basic things to think about before
you rush off with your cheque book and let some boat
dealer take your hard earned money.
We
will look at buying a first boat in our next instalment.
